Georgian 5 Plank Oak Coffer
About the Item
A Georgian 5 plank oak coffer
These charming chests are known as 5 plank because it takes 5 planks to make one, front, back, top and bottom and the last plank is cut in half to form the sides which need to be half the size of the length of the coffer
The chest is made in solid oak, the top has a scalloped carving (chip carved) along its edges with a double line of punch carving decoration at each side and continues on the front of the chest
The Front of the coffer has a large blacksmith made escutcheon plate, the chest has blacksmith made hinges and a lidded candle box inside
This is a very old piece, it has a repair to the front edge of the lid, ( this is an old repair) it has a good color and is in satisfactory condition for its years, this piece has a very attractive shape
The coffer is 33” long, 16” deep and 24” high
